Culture Camp 2017

Culture Camp 2017

Spiritual education will go a long way in our life helping us to become refined, cultured and civilized citizens of the society and achieve success in our personal, professional and spiritual life. With this view of cultivating cultural values in younger generation of our society and to increase their spiritual awareness Hare Krishna Mandir conducts summer camp every year during the summer vacation, this time about 100 children participated in this camp.

As part of this summer camp, we conducted special sessions on Indian philosophy to help children gain access to the time-tested, age-old wisdom of great sages of our country. This helps the children to imbibe the right values and lead a meaningful life. Here children had a course on Bhagavad Gita in which they learnt various Shlokas & value based stories from Srimad Bhagavatam, Ramayan, Mahabharath and other scriptures, by which they learnt basic principles which will guide them in daily life. Children also learnt offering Arati and food to the Lord. They were also taught Mantra Meditation and singing bhajans. Children enjoyed daily sessions as they learnt spirituality through games and Vedic Quiz. Also they got an opportunity to discover their innate talent and to hone their creative skills by participating in the module of their choice like Kathak Dance Drama, Arts & Crafts, Drawing & painting, Drama and various musical instruments.

We had experts among different fields being invited daily to culture camp to teach children on various aspects like Puppet show. Dr. Sumitra, a Dietician explained children about personality development, food, helath and nutricious aspects. Children were taught about importance of yoga in daily life. Satvik cooking classes were conducted which explained children about the importance of offering food to Lord. Arts and crafts teacher conducted a workshop for children on Clay modelling and best out of waste, and many more guest speakers spoke to children on informative topics.

A trip was also conducted as a part of the camp. The Culture Camp concluded with a talents show, wherein they showcased the skills they had acquired during the two weeks camp.

Testimonials from Parents :

“I liked the whole concept because it was not any 'Summer' Camp but a 'Culture' camp. Something which is highly needed for children specially in today's times. My child was engaged in such a positive way for these 15 days. I am very happy to see Agastya learning new Shlokas and their meanings as well as doing the harekrishna chanting. He has learnt to meet new people and make friends. Also he learnt about how to be a part of a stage act. Exposure of how to do things in a professional and qualitative way is a big learning.”

“ My son has a record of not completing any course fully but this is the first time he has completed a 15 days summer camp. Daily he used to get up early, get ready to go to camp, I have seen him enjoying the camp, he has learnt shlokas from Bhagavad Gita, meditation. Moreover, I see lot of changes in him after attending the camp, he has become more like a spiritual man, he has started behaving responsibly towards everything, I am really happy..”

“We absolutely loved this culture camp. My daughter had attended this camp for 15 days and I truly saw drastic changes in her. She started chanting 2 malas of Hare Krishna daily. One day she came home from camp and said why do we eat food without offering to the Lord and explained me the story which he learnt in camp that day, and from that day onwards we stopped onion and garlic in our house and my daughter started to offer food to God daily, I was really impressed when she was explaining me the Bhagvad gita chapter 9..”

“It was nice experience with culture camp at Hare Krishna temple, Bhadaj. As this is the second time my child participated, he is becoming more spiritual than before. Stopped eating onion and garlic, started chanting and also he says we should not do anything wrong to anyone and also not react on such activities. We will make it mandatory for him this cultural camp every year. Hare Krishna”
