People are often puzzled with questions like - What is Bhagavad-gita, why should I read it? What can I achieve by understanding it? Being perplexed and unable to find a strong reason, they lose the most fortunate opportunity to read this divine literature. Can there be a good reason for not reading the Gita? No! Because the message that Bhagavad-gita conveys, touches every aspect of life and solves problems forever. Four important reasons can be...
Reason 1: Nothing further remains to be known.
Bhagavad-Gita has complete answers for all questions of life like – How was the world created? A hundred 100 years ago, where was I? Who am I? What is my true identity? After 100 years, where will I be? Who is God? What is the purpose of this world? What is my duty?
These kinds of questions are expected from all intelligent human beings, and answers to these questions lead oneself to the highest perfection. Therefore, Lord Krishna says to Arjuna in BG 7.2- "I shall now declare unto you in full this knowledge both phenomenal (this material world) and noumenal (spiritual world), by knowing which there shall remain nothing further to be known."
Modern scientists are doing enormous research work for knowledge. But, if one understands Bhagavad-Gita, nothing further remains to be known.
Reason 2: Grants immortality and solves all problems of life.
Bhagavad-Gita keeps an end to all problems of life, including those which no one can solve. For example, the solution to stop the cycle of birth & death.
BG 4.9 - "One who knows the transcendental nature of My (Krishna) appearance and activities does not, upon leaving the body, take his birth again in this material world, but attains My eternal abode (Spiritual world), O Arjuna."
BG 8.5- "And whoever, at the time of death, quits his body, remembering Me (Krishna) alone, at once attains My nature (Spiritual world). Of this, there is no doubt."
Bhagavad-Gita not only gives solutions to prominent problems like death but also all kinds of issues (personal, social, national, international). Srila Prabhupada says- " I have experienced that this Krishna Consciousness movement or to present the philosophy of the 'Bhagavad-Gita-as it is', can solve all problems of the world."
Reason 3: Secrets to the highest perfection of life.
Lord Krishna says - BG 9.1, 9.2 - "My dear Arjuna because you are never envious of Me, I shall impart to you this most secret wisdom, knowing which you shall be relieved of the miseries of material existence. This knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets."
By learning under the direction of a bona fide spiritual master like Srila Prabhupada, one quickly understands secrets & shortcuts. Once, Srila Prabhupada was asked, "There are many editions of Bhagavad-Gita in the market, which one to read?" Srila Prabhupada replied that one could understand the real purport of Krishna’s words only through His bona fide representative in the disciplic succession and there is no other way.
Therefore, Srila Prabhupada, the 32nd Acharya of Brahma-Madhva-Gaudiya sampradaya, for our benefit, wrote a commentary called “Bhagavad-Gita, As It Is” and presented the message of Krishna without any compromise and changes.
Reason 4: Lifts us to the spiritual dimension
Bhagavad-gita is the essence of the entire Vedic wisdom and is called Gitopanishad. Bhagavad-gita uplifts our standard of thinking, perspectives. The same circumstances, situations which are bothering & overwhelming us become teeny & insignificant. For example, Arjuna was deeply afflicted and confused, but, after hearing Bhagavad-Gita, he was entirely transformed.
BG 18.73- "Arjuna said, my dear Krishna, O infallible one, my illusion is now gone. I have regained my memory by Your mercy, and I am now firm and free from doubt." This statement signifies that Arjuna with the help of Bhagavad-Gita reached the spiritual platform where there cannot be any dilemmas, impediments.
It is impossible for a person living in modern society to thoroughly read and comprehend the Vedas. But, the goal of the entire Vedic literature which is to elevate us to spiritual existence and understand Krishna is reached just by understanding Bhagavad-Gita.
लोग अक्सर ऐसे सवालों से परेशान रहते हैं जैसे - भगवद-गीता क्या है, मुझे इसे क्यों पढ़ना चाहिए? इसे समझकर मैं क्या हासिल कर सकता हूं? भ्रमित होकर और कोई ठोस कारण न खोज पाने के कारण वे इस दिव्य साहित्य को पढ़ने का सौभाग्यशाली अवसर गँवा बैठते हैं। क्या गीता न पढ़ने का कोई अच्छा कारण हो सकता है? नहीं! क्योंकि भगवद-गीता जो संदेश देती है, वह जीवन के हर पहलू को छूती है और समस्याओं को हमेशा के लिए हल कर देती है। चार महत्वपूर्ण कारण हो सकते हैं...
कारण 1: अब और कुछ भी जानना शेष नहीं है।
भगवद-गीता में जीवन के सभी प्रश्नों के संपूर्ण उत्तर हैं जैसे - संसार की रचना कैसे हुई? सौ 100 साल पहले, मैं कहाँ था? मैं कौन हूँ? मेरी असली पहचान क्या है? 100 साल बाद मैं कहाँ रहूँगा? ईश्वर कौन है? इस संसार का उद्देश्य क्या है? मेरा कर्तव्य क्या है?
सभी बुद्धिमान मनुष्यों से इस प्रकार के प्रश्नों की अपेक्षा की जाती है, और इन प्रश्नों के उत्तर स्वयं को उच्चतम पूर्णता की ओर ले जाते हैं। इसलिए, भगवान कृष्ण बीजी 7.2 में अर्जुन से कहते हैं- "अब मैं तुम्हें इस ज्ञान को भौतिक (इस भौतिक संसार) और नाममात्र (आध्यात्मिक संसार) दोनों के बारे में पूरी तरह से बताऊंगा, जिसे जानने के बाद जानने के लिए आगे कुछ भी नहीं बचेगा।"
आधुनिक वैज्ञानिक ज्ञान के लिए बड़े पैमाने पर शोध कार्य कर रहे हैं। लेकिन, अगर कोई भगवद-गीता को समझ लेता है, तो आगे कुछ भी जानना बाकी नहीं रहता।
कारण 2: अमरता प्रदान करता है और जीवन की सभी समस्याओं का समाधान करता है।
भगवद-गीता जीवन की सभी समस्याओं का अंत करती है, जिनमें वे भी शामिल हैं जिन्हें कोई हल नहीं कर सकता। उदाहरणार्थ, जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र को रोकने का उपाय।
बीजी 4.9 - "जो मेरे (कृष्ण) स्वरूप और गतिविधियों की पारलौकिक प्रकृति को जानता है, वह शरीर छोड़ने पर, इस भौतिक दुनिया में फिर से जन्म नहीं लेता है, बल्कि मेरे शाश्वत निवास (आध्यात्मिक दुनिया) को प्राप्त करता है, हे अर्जुन।"
बीजी 8.5- "और जो कोई भी, मृत्यु के समय, केवल मुझे (कृष्ण को) याद करते हुए, अपना शरीर छोड़ देता है, वह तुरंत मेरी प्रकृति (आध्यात्मिक दुनिया) को प्राप्त कर लेता है। इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है।"
भगवद-गीता न केवल मृत्यु जैसी प्रमुख समस्याओं का समाधान देती है बल्कि सभी प्रकार के मुद्दों (व्यक्तिगत, सामाजिक, राष्ट्रीय, अंतर्राष्ट्रीय) का भी समाधान देती है। श्रील प्रभुपाद कहते हैं- "मैंने अनुभव किया है कि यह कृष्ण चेतना आंदोलन या 'भगवद-गीता-जैसा है' के दर्शन को प्रस्तुत करना, दुनिया की सभी समस्याओं का समाधान कर सकता है।"
कारण 3: जीवन की सर्वोच्च पूर्णता का रहस्य।
भगवान कृष्ण कहते हैं - बीजी 9.1, 9.2 - "मेरे प्रिय अर्जुन, क्योंकि तुम मुझसे कभी ईर्ष्या नहीं करते, मैं तुम्हें यह सबसे गुप्त ज्ञान प्रदान करूंगा, जिसे जानकर तुम भौतिक अस्तित्व के दुखों से छुटकारा पा जाओगे। यह ज्ञान राजा है शिक्षा, सभी रहस्यों में सबसे रहस्य।"
श्रील प्रभुपाद जैसे प्रामाणिक आध्यात्मिक गुरु के निर्देशन में सीखने से व्यक्ति जल्दी ही रहस्यों और शॉर्टकट को समझ जाता है। एक बार, श्रील प्रभुपाद से पूछा गया, "बाजार में भगवद-गीता के कई संस्करण हैं, कौन सा पढ़ना चाहिए?" श्रील प्रभुपाद ने उत्तर दिया कि कोई भी कृष्ण के शब्दों के वास्तविक अर्थ को केवल शिष्य उत्तराधिकार में उनके प्रामाणिक प्रतिनिधि के माध्यम से ही समझ सकता है और कोई अन्य रास्ता नहीं है।
इसलिए, हमारे लाभ के लिए, ब्रह्म-माधव-गौड़ीय संप्रदाय के 32वें आचार्य श्रील प्रभुपाद ने "भगवद-गीता, यथारूप" नामक एक टिप्पणी लिखी और बिना किसी समझौते और बदलाव के कृष्ण का संदेश प्रस्तुत किया।
कारण 4: हमें आध्यात्मिक आयाम तक ले जाता है
भगवद-गीता संपूर्ण वैदिक ज्ञान का सार है और इसे गीतोपनिषद कहा जाता है। भगवद-गीता हमारी सोच के स्तर, दृष्टिकोण को ऊपर उठाती है। वही परिस्थितियाँ, परिस्थितियाँ जो हमें परेशान कर रही हैं और अभिभूत कर रही हैं, नन्हीं और महत्वहीन हो जाती हैं। उदाहरण के लिए, अर्जुन अत्यधिक पीड़ित और भ्रमित था, लेकिन भगवद-गीता सुनने के बाद, वह पूरी तरह से बदल गया।
बीजी 18.73- "अर्जुन ने कहा, मेरे प्रिय कृष्ण, हे अच्युत, मेरा भ्रम अब दूर हो गया है। आपकी दया से मुझे अपनी स्मृति वापस मिल गई है, और अब मैं दृढ़ और संदेह से मुक्त हूं।" यह कथन दर्शाता है कि भगवद-गीता की मदद से अर्जुन उस आध्यात्मिक मंच पर पहुँच गए जहाँ कोई दुविधा, बाधा नहीं हो सकती।
आधुनिक समाज में रहने वाले व्यक्ति के लिए वेदों को पूरी तरह से पढ़ना और समझना असंभव है। लेकिन, संपूर्ण वैदिक साहित्य का लक्ष्य, जो हमें आध्यात्मिक अस्तित्व तक ले जाना और कृष्ण को समझना है, भगवद-गीता को समझने से ही पूरा हो जाता है।
