The auspicious advent day of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita's is known as Gita Jayanti. On this day more than 5000 years ago, Lord Krishna taught Arjuna the essence of Vedic knowledge and enlightened him to the meaning of existence. According to the Gita-Mahatmya, if one properly follows the instructions of Bhagavad Gita, he can be liberated from all suffering and worries in this life, and his next life will be a spiritual one. The phrase "Bhagavad Gita" translates as "the song of the Supreme Lord." It is the body of Vedic literature that is most well-known worldwide. This day serves as a reminder of the day when Lord Sri Krishna spoke to His devotee Arjuna the Srimad Bhagavad Gita. At Hare Krishna Mandir, we will be celebrating this day by erecting an exhibition of Krishna-Parthsarthy in the main temple hall. We will be reciting all the Bhagavad Gita 700 verses together with the devotees. Join us in this Gita Parayana.
Hare Krishna Mandir will be celebrating this festival with the Grand Abhishekam of Sri Sri Nitai Gauranga with the tumultuous Harinaam Snakirtan in the main temple hall. The auspicious day of Sri Nityananda Prabhu's advent is known as Sri Nityananda Trayodashi. In order to start the Sankirtana Movement, the Supreme Lord Sri Krishna appeared in Navadvipa, West Bengal, as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (Congregational chanting of the holy name of the Lord, the Yuga-dharma for this age). In the form of Nityananda Prabhu, Lord Balarama assisted the Supreme Lord in carrying out His purpose. He helped Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu by distributing the Lord's holy name in Bengal. In the year 1474 AD, Nityananda Prabhu appeared as the son of Padmavati and Hadai Pandita in the village of Ekachakra, in the district of Birbhum (West Bengal). He was born in the month of Magha on the thirteenth day of the light fortnight (Magha Shukla Trayodashi). Even today, pilgrims travel to Ekachakra to visit the birthplace of Lord Nityananda. The name of this temple is Garbhavasa. Lord Nityananda's parents were devout Brahmins who were originally from Mithila.
Sri Gaura Purnima is the auspicious appearance day of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu who is also known as Gauranga due to His golden complexion. This festival also marks the beginning of the New Year for Gaudiya Vaishnavas. The Supreme Lord Sri Krishna appeared as Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to establish Sankirtana (chanting of the Holy Names) – the Yuga Dharma for this age of Kali. He appeared on Phalguni Purnima, the full moon day in the month of Phalguna, (Feb-March) in the year 1486 AD (1407 Shakabda) at Sridham Mayapura as the son of Sri Jagannath Mishra and Srimati Sachidevi. His parents named Him Nimai since He was born under a Nimba (neem) tree in the courtyard of His paternal house.
