I offer my respectful obeisances unto the Supreme Lord whose navel is like a lotus flower, who is adorned with a garland of lotuses, whose eyes are as beautiful and cooling as the lotus, and whose lotus feet are marked with divine symbols.

Spiritual Significance of the Mantra

In devotional literature, the lotus flower symbolizes purity, beauty, and transcendence. Though it grows in muddy water, the lotus remains untouched by impurity. Similarly, the Lord remains completely transcendental while residing within the material creation.

By addressing the Lord as Pankaja-Nabha (lotus-navel), the prayer remembers the source of creation, from whose navel the lotus of Brahma appeared. Calling Him Pankaja-Mali glorifies His divine garland of lotus flowers, symbolizing His eternal beauty.

Describing His lotus eyes reminds the devotee of His compassionate glance, which removes suffering and grants spiritual shelter.
