Above quoted answer to the question under discussion is subjected to the limitations of man, in exploring this phenomenal world. However, Vedic literatures, which are free from such limitations of man, gives information about this universe as follows:

The inner core of the universe is made of combination of eight elements: earth, water, fire, air, ether, mind, intelligence and ego. And Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Thakur, one of the greatest astrologers of his time, gives information from Siddhanta-siromani that the core of this universe measures 18,712,069,200,000,000 yojanas in circumference.Thus the diameter of the core of the universe is 5,956,200,000,000,000 yojanas i.e. 47,649,600 billion miles. Srimad Bhagavatam mentions that the core of universe is covered with seven different layers, which are each 10 times thicker than the previous one. The first covering of the universe is constituted mainly of earthly elements, and it is ten times thicker than the core of the universe. Since the core of the universe is 47,649,600 billion miles in size, the size of the earthly covering of the universe is 47,649,600 billion times ten. Then next is the covering of watery elements which is ten times greater than the earthly covering, then the covering of fiery elements is ten times greater than the watery covering, then the covering of airy elements is ten times greater than that of the fire, the covering of ether is ten times greater still than that of air, and so on.
