Dr. Usha Upadhyay is a renowned Gujarati literary figure, poet, critic, and educationist. She holds M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Gujarati literature. Her doctoral thesis was on the topic: "Symbolism in Post-Independence Gujarati Poetry."

She has served as a Professor and Head of the Gujarati Department at Gujarat Vidyapith, Ahmedabad, and also as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts. She has guided more than 60 researchers in M.Phil. and Ph.D. programs. She has made significant contributions in the fields of diasporic Indian literature and women’s studies.

Dr. Upadhyay is a multifaceted author — an accomplished poet, scholarly critic, influential speaker, and a skilled presenter. She has authored forty books across various genres, including poetry, criticism, research, children’s literature, and translations. Her poems have been translated into English, Hindi, Odia, Sanskrit, Kannada, Bengali, and other languages.

She has delivered numerous lectures and participated in poetry recitals across India and abroad — including the USA, Nepal, Thailand, and Cambodia. Several Indian universities have included her poetry collections in their academic curricula.
