Ramayana is an ancient epic written by Sage Valmiki which narrates the life of Lord Rama, the legendary Prince of the Kosala Kingdom. We all know that it follows His fourteen-year exile to the forest along with His wife Sita and brother Lakshmana. But here are some unknown facts which probably you might have never heard before!

 Meaning of Rama – Rama means “unlimited spiritual pleasure”. Lord Rama is the bestower of that pleasure upon His devotees

“राम” का अर्थ – राम का अर्थ है “अनंत आध्यात्मिक आनंद” । भगवान् राम अपने भक्तों पर इस आनंद की कृपावृष्टि करते हैं । 

Ramayan has​ 7 kandas and​ 24,000 verses. Sage Valmiki wrote the complete Ramayana even before the birth of Lord Rama. By the Lord’s blessings he could foresee the events.

रामायण में 7 काण्ड और 24,000 श्लोक हैं । महर्षि वाल्मीकि  ने भगवान् राम के जन्म के पूर्व ही सम्पूर्ण रामायण लिख दी थी । भगवान् राम की कृपा से उन्हें लीलाओं का पूर्वदृष्टान्त हो चुका था ।

Lord Rama went into exile at the age of 27 years.

भगवान् राम 27 वर्ष की आयु में वनवास गए थे ।

Lord Rama ruled over Ayodhya for 11,000 years.

भगवान् श्री राम ने अयोध्या पर 11,000 वर्षों तक शासन किया था ।

Ayodhya is situated on the bank of Sarayu river. It originates from a lake or sarovar (Man Sarovar) therefore it is called Sarayu.

अयोध्या सरयू नदी के तट पर स्थित है । सरोवर (मान सरोवर) से उद्गम होने के कारण इसका नाम सरयू पड़ा ।

Lakshmana was the incarnation of  Anantasesha and Bharata and Shatrughna were incarnations of the personal weapons of Lord Vishnu. 

 लक्ष्मण शेषनाग (अनंत शेष) के अवतार थे और भरत तथा शत्रुघ्न भगवान् विष्णु के आयुधों के अवतार हैं ।

Ravana and Kumbhakarna were Hiranyakashyap and Hiranyaksh in their previous births. In the next birth they became Shishupal and Dantvakra.

रावण और कुम्भकर्ण अपने पूर्व जन्म में  हिरण्यकश्यप और हिरण्याक्ष नामक असुर थे । भगवान् राम के हाथों मरने के बाद वे शिशुपाल और दन्तवक्र बने ।

During the 14 years of exile, Lakshman never slept even for a while. Urmila, His wife slept on His part for 14 years.

लक्ष्मण वनवास के 14 वर्षों में कभी नहीं सोये । उनके हिस्से की नींद उनकी पत्नी उर्मिला ने १४ वर्षों तक निरंतर सोकर पूरी की ।

The​ ​bridge to Lanka was 800 miles long, 80 miles wide and it was built just in 5 days by bears and monkeys. ​

वानरों तथा ऋक्षों ने लंका जाने के लिए 800 मील लम्बा तथा 80 मील चौड़ा सेतु निर्माण किया जिसे बनने में केवल 5 दिन लगे ।
