Shravan Mahina, or Sawan Month or Shravan Maas is one of the holiest months in a traditional Hindu calendar. In 2024 this period starts on 22nd July and ends on 12 August.
Krishna and His Deities in Shravan
While Shravan is primarily dedicated to Lord Shiva, Krishna and His associated deities also hold significance during this holy month.
Krishna and His Consort: Radha
- Divine Love: The monsoon season, synonymous with Shravan, is often associated with romance and love. This makes it an ideal time to celebrate the divine love between Krishna and Radha.
- Joint Worship: Many devotees worship Krishna and Radha together during Shravan, offering prayers for love, devotion, and harmony.
Krishna and His Divine Mother: Yashoda
- Maternal Love: Yashoda, Krishna's foster mother, is often remembered with great affection during Shravan. Her unconditional love for Krishna is a powerful symbol of maternal devotion.
- Devotion to the Divine Child: Devotees often offer prayers to Yashoda, seeking her blessings for nurturing and protection.
Krishna and His Brother: Balarama
- Brotherhood: The bond between Krishna and Balarama, often depicted as inseparable, is celebrated during Shravan.
- Strength and Compassion: Balarama, known for his strength and compassion, is revered alongside Krishna.
Krishna and His Friends: The Gopis
- Divine Playfulness: The Gopis, Krishna's divine companions, are an integral part of Krishna's leelas. Their devotion and love for Krishna are celebrated during Shravan.
- Divine Feminine Energy: The Gopis represent the divine feminine energy and are worshipped alongside Krishna.
While the primary focus of Shravan is Lord Shiva, incorporating the worship of Krishna and His associated deities enriches the spiritual experience of this holy month.
